Hi, Your looking a reissued "Harper Weekly", in the 1960 I believe the one of the New York newspapers reissued the "Harper's Weekly", and you could subscribe to it. Again this is not a 1860's newspaper it is a reissued one, it has the 1860' news printed in the 1960"s It was 100 years since the "Civil War". It has been 148 year this year. I have given these away as birthday gifts to some of my friends and family. If you know anyone born in 1961 and likes history this would be a unique gift that they most likely don't have. Also good for show and tell at school. (What do you get someone who has everything?), These papers are in good shape for being 48 years old, they do have a permant fold in the middle and the edges are a little worn from storage, and some small tears in fold from storage and age. The papers in the pictures may not be the ones you get, I took a couple pictures and using the same ones for all my papers. But it is in just as good of condition. In this particular it contains a sketch of: General Lyon at the Battle of Springfield Small Snippet of a Commentary enclosed: The battle of Wilson's Creek was the culmination of Lyon's Missouri campaign. following the skirmish at Dug Creek on August 2, the two armies jockeyed inot position for twelve miles southwest of springfield. both forces now contained several non-Missouri units, and that was the losing the aspects of a state vendetta and becoming more a civil struggle.... Mention is made in "domestic Intelligence" (page 547) of the mutinous 79th New York Infantry. the Highlanders had been badly mauled at Bull run and at pointed out in the august 10 commentary, had lost the commander, colonel cameron..... In the sketch of geral officers on page 548 is on individual whose popularity never equalled his achievements for the Union. quite and unobtrusive John A dix received his general's commission after organizing seventeen new York infantry regiments...... The Bowie knives that Mississippians are shown tossing on page 556 were sometimes called "arkansas toothpicks." the weapon was popular in the early stages of the war, particularly when the Confederate soldier went to have a daguerrotype made for the folks back home..... The General John Magruder burned the city of hampton (pages 550, 554) is unquestioned. Yet a discrepancy exist over the time allotted for evacuation. Magruder stated in his offical report: "notice was given to the few remaining inhabitants of the place, and those who were aged or infirm were kindly cared for and taken to their friends." On the other hand, butler charged that Magruder gave fifteen minutes' notice, and that the aged and infirm "by that walton act of destruction" were left "houseless and homeless."..... Good luck and Happy Bidding.
