1479 LEAF BIBLE RELATED INCUNABULA 4 leafs "MAMOTRECTUS SUPER BIBLIAM" Written by Jo.Marchensius and Printed by Nicolas Jenson on 23 Sept 1479 Probably the most important part about this leaf is the printer Nicolas Jenson, he is a very collectable and highly respectable printer he printed about 70 works (between 1470 and 1490) including Latin and Italian Bibles. Some research on this printer shows that he was taught the art of printing by Gutenberg himself. This book was printed approx 25 years after the development of the printing press Jenson developed a particular style of roman type printing that became the standard for his time and it again was revived by William Moris in the late 19th cent. He has been noted by some as the finest printer during the 15th century The leaves size is approx. 7.5 by 5.5 inches The book itself was written by Joannes Marchesini of reggio,a Franciscan friar. It was a classic 13th century theological text. It contains an explanation of Biblical words and follows the books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation so that when you look at it you think you are actually reading a Bible. Nice clean leaf with very minor almost invisible water staining in the magin, with wide margins ideal for framing REFF:BMC V p.180,Goff M-239 These Leafs have never been sold this many at a time.
