1891 SUPERB GORHAM HAND CHASED STERLING SILVER CUP/MUG Presented is a wonderful quality sterling silver cup or mug made by Gorham Manufacturing Company. The cup has a handsome octagonal design. The body is beautifully hand chased with gorgeous flowers, scrolls, and leaves done in high relief. The handle is topped with acanthus leaf decoration. The cup has an elegant gold wash on the interior. The front of the cup is engraved with SFE 1900. The underside of the mug is engraved, “Stuart Franklin Edson, from his Godmother and Grandmother, Caroline La Bau Squier”. The cup is hallmarked on the reverse with Gorham’s old company hallmarks, Sterling, and the date mark for 1891. Although this piece is engraved on the front of the cup for the year 1900, it was actually made nine years earlier in the year 1891. The condition is excellent. The cup is pristine, about as clean as you will ever find one. This piece was apparently put aside and never used or touched. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The gold wash on the interior is also in superb condition. The cup is 4 1/2 inches wide across the handle and 3 5/8 inches tall. The weight is 174.8 grams or 6.1 ounces.
