6" ROCOCO HINGED BOX (Classic Romantic Tableaux!) Here is an extraordinarily beautiful reproduction of an early 18th Century plus-sized FRENCH ROCOCO HINGED BOX! Gorgeously fashioned from the finest porcelain and sumptuously decorated -- front, back, sides, and top (!) -- with individual panels of minutely detailed romantic paintings most likely attributable to Jean Antoine Watteau (1684-1721). Watteau invented a style known as fête galante; small pastoral compositions of men and women, dressed with studied refinement, who flirt decorously in a landscape setting. Here the wonderful paintings are set against a rich, deep cobalt blue background and framed by a period-perfect brocade in richly overlaid 18k gold! This stunning keepsake measures a substantial 6"tall (!), 4-1/2" wide and 2-1/2"deep. The box is hinged in the rear, clasped in the front, off two full-circumference, etched, glimmering gold-toned metal rims!
