CHOKWE /LWENA - PWO MASK- ANGOLA # 8752 A fabulous work of tribal art from the Chokwe and related peoples of Southwestern Democratic republic of Congo, Angola and Zambia. The Pwo mask is an archetype of womanhood. Pwo is the incarnation of the female ancestor who encourages fertility. The mask is worn by a man dressed in a full bodied fiber costume as part of the grand masquerade at the end of the mukanda initiation ceremony. Fiber hair measures 12 inches in length approx.
